Climate Justice for Women and Girls

Women are protecting nature and shaping a more sustainable future every day. Across communities and sectors, women play a critical role in safeguarding land, water, biodiversity, and social resilience. Yet climate change continues to affect women and girls disproportionately, especially those in vulnerable communities.

Real climate solutions must include women—not only as participants, but as leaders, decision-makers, and changemakers. Women often understand the realities of their communities deeply, bringing perspectives rooted in lived experience, care, and long-term responsibility. Empowering women means strengthening the very foundation of sustainable development.

Climate action that excludes women will not succeed. Gender justice is essential to building resilience, advancing sustainability, and creating systems that work for both people and planet.

A Sustainable World Without Women Is Impossible

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and creating meaningful environmental progress requires women’s full and equal participation across economic security, leadership, governance, and climate action.

Women continue to lead important work in communities, organizations, and institutions, yet they remain underrepresented in many decision-making spaces. Their knowledge, leadership, and contributions are essential to building solutions that are inclusive, practical, and sustainable for future generations.

Women United for Sustainability Impact (WUSI) exists to help bridge this gap by connecting women leaders, amplifying collaboration, and turning collective expertise into measurable impact.

Prioritize the Rights, Leadership, and Livelihoods of Women and Girls

A just and sustainable transition begins with protecting the rights of women and ensuring equal access to opportunities, resources, and leadership spaces. Women must have equal rights to land, productive assets, education, participation, and natural resources.

Particular attention must also be given to Indigenous women, grassroots leaders, and local communities whose experiences and knowledge are vital in environmental stewardship, biodiversity protection, and climate governance.

When women are empowered to lead, communities become more resilient, ecosystems are better protected, and sustainability efforts become more grounded and effective. Inclusive climate action is not only a matter of equality—it is a requirement for long-term environmental and social progress.

Women United for Sustainability Impact (WUSI) believes that collaboration, leadership, and shared learning can create lasting change. Through collective action, women and allies can help shape a future that is more equitable, sustainable, and resilient for all.
